Mike Pero Sponsors New Zealand Grand Prix
Press Release - 29 November 2016
When it comes to motorcycle event support, it doesn't get much more personal than this.
Mike Pero is backing the 2017 New Zealand Grand Prix at the circuit that carries his name - and he plans to have an outing as well.
"It's a pretty special event for me," the six time former New Zealand motorcycle champion says.
"I'm told that I’m the only rider ever to win four New Zealand Grand Prix classes in one day."
While most New Zealanders would associate the Pero name with mortgages or real estate few would know that a young Mike Pero started his working career as a motorcycle mechanic and had six championships and countless grand prix wins under his belt by the time he was 23 years of age.
The New Zealand Grand Prix was first held in North Canterbury in 1936 on a gravel circuit. In 1964 the Grand Prix was moved to the new sealed Ruapuna Park circuit southwest of Christchurch which is now known as Mike Pero Motorsport Park.
It’s a great honour to have to be part of the New Zealand Superbikes & Road Race Championships for 2017 and to sponsor the ‘Southern Nationals’ meeting and the New Zealand Grand Prix this season. This year’s event will feature all categories from 125cc to Superbikes and sidecars and each of the nine NZ Championship classes will compete for their respective Grand Prixs.” – says Pero
